Integrating trees and shrubs into farming systems to enhance biodiversity, improve soil health, and increase climate resilience across the West Nile Region
Agroforestry—the integration of trees with crops and livestock—offers a powerful pathway to regenerative food systems. This workstream promotes and demonstrates agroforestry practices that restore degraded landscapes, enhance biodiversity, sequester carbon, and provide multiple benefits to farming communities.
Working with farmers across the West Nile Region, we establish demonstration plots, provide training, and support the adoption of agroforestry systems tailored to local conditions and community needs.

Establishing trees along field boundaries for windbreaks, shade, and timber
Integrating fruit trees for nutrition, income diversification, and ecosystem services
Combining trees with livestock grazing for mutual benefits
Protecting water sources with tree planting along streams and wetlands
Establishing small-scale tree plantations for fuelwood, timber, and carbon sequestration
Reduced erosion, improved fertility, and better water retention
